Upod is based on the independent infrastructure from the Personal Datastore Foundation (SNDK).
Since 2022, we’ve been working on one simple idea: people should be in control of their own personal data. What started as a public-private R&D project is now becoming a reality for everyone, through Upod.
The Personal Datastore Foundation was created to explore how personal data could be stored, shared, governed in a fair and transparent way with interoperability and Linked Data at it’s core.
Upod is the next step: Making this technology simple, usable, and accessible for people and widely available for public sector and businesses across Europe.
To bring this technology to market responsibly, and with the appropriate investments, the foundation works together with Utonomy, the commercial organisation that helps businesses integrate Upod into their websites and services.
Utonomy enables commercial use cases, such as media, e-commerce, brands, and AI while the foundation enables non-profit availability for the public sector and that user data remains protected, independent, and never commercially owned.
This structure keeps the ecosystem open, trustworthy, investable, and future-proof.
We don’t build this alone. Upod is developed in close collaboration with a broad network of trusted partners across media, technology, research, and policy.
Several use cases have been co-funded by the European Union.
Together, we are building a shared ecosystem, not a closed platform.
